Japanese papercraft company Sankei has announced the release of three new diorama kits featuring environments from Studio Ghibli films. The kits, part of the manufacturer’s Miniatuart Mini Plus line, allow users to assemble miniature versions of settings from Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and The Secret World of Arrietty.
November 3: Retail Launch
Sankei confirmed that the collection will be available for purchase starting November 3. The kits will be sold through the company’s Rakuten online storefront. Each kit is packaged as a box containing paper sheets that serve as the building materials for the walls and interior. Once assembled, the original container acts as a display stand for the finished diorama.
Assembly and Pricing
The company classifies all three models as advanced-difficulty projects. Assembly for the Kiki’s Delivery Service kit is estimated to take at least five hours, while the Howl’s Moving Castle and Arrietty kits require 10 hours or more to complete. Pricing varies by model: the Kiki’s Delivery Service kit is priced at 4,290 yen (US$27), followed by the Arrietty kit at 6,160 yen, and the Howl’s Moving Castle kit at 6,600 yen.
Current Status of Ghibli Merchandise
The kits include specific details from the films, such as the character Calcifer in the Howl’s Moving Castle set and laundry props in the Kiki’s Delivery Service model. The Arrietty diorama measures 6 centimeters square, reflecting the small scale of the characters in the film. These kits provide an alternative for fans who cannot visit the larger-scale Ghibli Park exhibits.
