Rome, Sept. 4 (Reuters) – Italy’s Ministry of Agriculture announced that farmers can apply for a 20% rebate on diesel purchases until Sept. 30, under a scheme allocating roughly 90 million euros.
The subsidy, aimed at reducing fuel costs for agricultural operations, requires applicants to submit documentation of fuel purchases to the agency’s online portal. The deadline applies to all eligible entities, including individual growers and cooperatives.
According to the ministry, the program will be funded from the national budget for 2024 and is part of broader measures to support the agri‑food sector amid rising energy prices.
Application process
Applicants must register on the official website, upload receipts showing diesel acquisition, and certify that the fuel is used for farming activities. The ministry will verify claims before disbursing the rebate, which will be credited directly to the applicant’s bank account.
Background
The diesel bonus follows similar subsidies introduced last year for fertilizer and electricity. Officials said the 90‑million-euro allocation reflects the government’s commitment to maintain competitiveness of Italian agriculture.
Further details on the rollout will be released by the ministry in the coming weeks.
