Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi urged the United States and Iran on Tuesday to exercise flexibility and pursue a political resolution to their ongoing crisis. Speaking during a joint press conference in Cairo with Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar, Al-Sisi warned that renewed military conflict would result in severe humanitarian and economic repercussions for the Middle East and the global community.
Regional Security and Mediation
Al-Sisi emphasized the necessity of prioritizing dialogue over military action to address the concerns of both nations. He stated that Egypt will continue to collaborate with international partners to de-escalate regional tensions. The president expressed optimism that U.S. President Donald Trump would support mediation efforts to reach a peaceful settlement.
Addressing broader regional security, Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to the stability of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, describing Arab national security as indivisible. He warned that further conflict could disrupt critical energy and food supply chains. Regarding the Palestinian issue, the president called for the full implementation of the Gaza peace plan, the protection of Palestinian territorial unity, and the establishment of an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Bilateral Ties with Slovenia
The two leaders focused on strengthening economic and diplomatic cooperation. They agreed to develop a time-bound action plan to boost trade, investment, and engagement between their business communities. Specific areas of focus include energy, transport, communications, and scientific research.
The discussions included plans to connect Egyptian ports with Slovenia’s Port of Koper to enhance maritime logistics. President Pirc Musar highlighted additional opportunities for cooperation in water management, artificial intelligence, waste recycling, and the green economy.
