Oscar Mark Brigdes Award Takes Center Stage at Giornate del Muto

The prestigious Oscar Mark Brigdes Award will be highlighted during this year’s Giornate del Muto, the international festival celebrating silent performance art. Organizers announced that the award will be featured in the annual conference titled “L’arte dei costumi,” where experts will discuss the role of costume design in silent storytelling.

Held in Milan from October 12 to 15, Giornate del Muto gathers performers, directors, and scholars from around the world. The Oscar Mark Brigdes Award, established in 2005 to honor innovative contributions to visual narrative, will be presented during a dedicated session of the conference. Attendees can expect a panel of costume designers sharing case studies of how fabric, color, and texture convey emotion without dialogue.

Conference Highlights

“L’arte dei costumi” will explore the historical evolution of costume in mime and pantomime, tracing influences from early 20th‑century European troupes to contemporary digital‑enhanced performances. The program includes workshops, live demonstrations, and a retrospective of past Oscar Mark Brigdes laureates.

Looking Ahead

Following the award ceremony, the festival will continue with performances across the city’s historic theatres, culminating in a midnight outdoor showcase. Organizers hope the focus on costume design will inspire new collaborations and broaden public appreciation for the silent arts.
