New Date-Processing Complex Boosts Egypt’s Agricultural Ambitions

Exciting news from the New Valley: officials recently laid the cornerstone for a massive new date-processing complex in the Shorbagy Oasis. Spanning 64,000 square meters, the project is already 30% complete and represents a huge shift toward turning local crops into high-value products. It’s designed to handle everything from sorting and cleaning to high-tech packaging and refrigeration for up to 20,000 tonnes of dates.

This facility is a game-changer for the region. Powered by solar energy and smart irrigation, it aims to support the area’s one million palm trees while creating roughly 1,500 new jobs. By linking farming directly to industrial processing and export markets, this initiative helps ensure Egyptian dates reach more tables worldwide while boosting the local economy.
