La Scala Workers Vote to Strike on October 20

Employees at Milan’s La Scala opera house have voted to strike on October 20 to demand a contract renewal. The labor action was approved by an overwhelming margin, with 450 workers voting in favor and only one casting a ballot against the measure.

The planned stoppage threatens the upcoming premiere of the opera Faust. Union representatives indicated that the strike is a response to stalled negotiations regarding the renewal of their collective bargaining agreement. Management at the opera house has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the potential disruption to the performance schedule. The workers’ vote signals a significant escalation in the ongoing labor dispute at the historic venue. #LaScala #Opera #LaborStrike #Milan
