Egyptian officials, academics, and youth representatives have released the National Identity Charter, titled “Deep Roots and Renewed Vision,” following a three-day conference at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The event, held from September 21 to 23, 2026, convened approximately 450 participants from Egypt’s 27 governorates to address the intersection of national identity and digital transformation.
The Charter describes Egyptian identity as a balance between historical foundations and modern evolution. It emphasizes social cohesion, mutual trust, and consensus as essential components of national stability. While the document acknowledges the necessity of embracing diverse individual identities, it prompts questions regarding how a pluralistic society defines consensus. The Charter aligns with Article 50 of the 2014 Constitution, which mandates the protection of cultural pluralism across the nation.
