Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) is conducting live technical tests for a centralized lending system designed to support the upcoming launch of short-selling. The trials, conducted alongside the Egyptian Exchange and Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry (MCDR), aim to verify the operational infrastructure before the new regulatory framework takes effect.
The system enables borrowers to view lending offers and facilitates real-time connectivity between the MCDR and brokerage firms. FRA Chairperson Islam Azzam stated the platform will document all operational stages, including securities availability and transaction details. The agency says the framework intends to ensure transparency and market governance. Several licensed brokerage firms participated in the trials to confirm their technological readiness for the new rules. #Egypt #Finance #ShortSelling #EGX
