Italy Tightens Rules on Modified Microcars and Updates Road Code for Young Drivers and Pedestrians

Rome – The Italian transport ministry announced new measures to curb illegal modifications of microcars and revised the road code regarding driver licensing and pedestrian fines.

  1. Effective July 1, the ministry will enforce stricter inspections of “minicar” alterations, targeting unapproved engine upgrades and cosmetic changes.
  2. Owners of modified vehicles will be required to replace standard plates with personalized registration numbers that display compliance status.
  3. Simultaneously, the revised road code eliminates the provisional licence for 17‑year‑old drivers, raising the minimum age for a full driving licence to 18.
  4. The code also removes the penalty that fined pedestrians for using smartphones while crossing marked zebra crossings.

The changes aim to improve road safety and simplify enforcement, ministry officials said. #transport #roadSafety
