Spanish telecom operator Avatel announced on Wednesday that it has opened negotiations for a new employment regulation file (ERE) that will eliminate 444 positions, about 33.5% of its 1,325‑strong workforce.
The move marks the company’s third major restructuring in two years, following similar actions in 2024 and January 2026 that together removed roughly 600 workers, according to the General Union of Workers (UGT).
Avatel said the restructuring aims to align staffing levels with current market conditions and to improve financial stability. The union will represent affected employees in the bargaining process.
