Caetano Veloso Identifies Military Officer Who Assisted Him During Dictatorship

Brazilian musician Caetano Veloso has identified the military sergeant who facilitated a meeting with his wife while he was imprisoned during the country’s military dictatorship. The discovery occurred 57 years after the event took place.

Veloso was detained by the regime in 1968. According to reports, the sergeant allowed the artist to see his wife, Dedé Gadelha, during his period of incarceration. The identity of the officer had remained unknown to the songwriter for decades until recently.

The military regime in Brazil, which lasted from 1964 to 1985, frequently detained artists and political dissidents. Veloso remains one of Brazil’s most prominent cultural figures, known for his role in the Tropicália movement. #CaetanoVeloso #Brazil #History #Dictatorship
