Spain Poised to Welcome Over 100 Million Tourists as Destinations Deploy AI Tools and New Fees

Spain is on track to receive more than 100 million international visitors this year, the first time it will surpass that benchmark, tourism officials said. Between January and August, the country recorded 70.4 million foreign travelers, a 5.4% rise from the same period last year, and bookings suggest the total could reach 102 million by year‑end.

Major tourist hubs are responding to the surge by testing measures aimed at preventing overcrowding and preserving resident quality of life. Authorities are introducing visitor caps, higher tourism taxes and AI‑driven management systems to monitor foot traffic and allocate resources more efficiently.

Early reports indicate the initiatives have had limited impact so far, as cities grapple with balancing economic benefits against strain on infrastructure. Industry analysts note that continued growth will depend on how quickly municipalities can refine these tools and enforce new regulations.
