European Telcos Join Forces to Counter Starlink’s Satellite Spectrum Bid

Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefonica and Vodafone have signed a letter of intent to explore a joint bid for the European Union’s mobile-satellite services (MSS) spectrum. The consortium aims to develop direct-to-device satellite connectivity for standard mobile phones and present a unified European front against SpaceX’s Starlink network, which is expanding its market presence.

The four operators said the cooperation will assess technical and regulatory requirements for the MSS band and could lead to a coordinated auction strategy. They highlighted the need for affordable, high‑capacity satellite links to complement terrestrial networks.

Industry analysts view the move as an effort to preserve competitive balance in the emerging satellite‑mobile market. #Telecom #MSS #Starlink @Telefónica @DeutscheTelekom @Orange @Vodafone
