Egypt Chemical Exports to China Jump 678% in Eight Months

Egypt’s exports of chemicals and fertilizers to China reached $287 million during the first eight months of 2026, marking a 678% increase compared to the same period last year. Data from the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) indicates that export values rose from $37 million in 2025.

Key Export Developments

  • Significant revenue growth: Export values surged by $250 million year-on-year, reaching a total of $287 million.
  • Market positioning: China has solidified its standing among the top 10 destinations for Egyptian chemical and fertilizer products.
  • Concentrated trade: The sector’s top 10 export markets represent 56% of total shipments during the eight-month timeframe.
  • Forthcoming trade engagement: The Egyptian Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers is preparing for the 140th Canton Fair, running from October 23-27, 2026.
  • Strategic collaboration: The council is working with the Egyptian General Authority for International Exhibitions and Conferences and the Beijing commercial office to organize an Egyptian pavilion.

Expanding Market Reach

Khaled Abu El-Makarim, chairperson of the Egyptian Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers, stated that the growth reflects improved export performance and opportunities for Egyptian goods globally. He noted that the data confirms the potential to deepen the presence of local products within the Chinese market.

The upcoming participation in the Canton Fair marks Egypt’s return to the event with a joint pavilion after a multi-year absence. The pavilion will feature manufacturers specializing in glass tableware, decorative glass, and plastic household goods. The initiative aims to connect local companies directly with Chinese importers and distributors to foster new commercial partnerships.

Why it matters: This trade surge highlights China’s growing role as a strategic partner for Egyptian industrial exports. By leveraging participation in major international platforms like the Canton Fair, Egyptian manufacturers aim to diversify their export base and increase the competitiveness of local industrial goods in the Asian market.
