Egypt and AUC Launch Water Management Training Program for Africa

Egypt’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has partnered with the American University in Cairo (AUC) to launch a new initiative aimed at training African professionals in climate resilience and water management. The agreement establishes the Building Climate Leadership Excellence for African Resilience (BCLEAR) program, which focuses on sustainable resource planning across the continent.

Expanding Regional Expertise

The program will conduct four training-of-trainers sessions in Egypt, Uganda, and Rwanda. Participants will study climate-smart agriculture, crop management, and the water-energy-food-ecosystems (WEFE) nexus. This approach examines the interconnected nature of these sectors rather than managing them in isolation.

Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam stated that African nations share common challenges regarding food security and climate change. He noted that sharing expertise among Nile Basin countries can transform regional cooperation into practical partnerships. The AUC will provide academic and research support, while the ministry contributes technical expertise. The initiative aims to create a network of specialists capable of transferring these skills to their respective national institutions.
