Former Ironman Champion Olivier Bernhard Launches On Shoes Deal with Kylian Mbappé

In a modest Zurich workshop, former triathlete Olivier Bernhard examined a prototype running shoe, testing its rebound on a concrete floor. The 58-year-old Swiss athlete, who once won an Ironman title, has turned his obsession with cushioning and weight into a global brand.

After years of theoretical debate about shoe design, Bernhard co‑founded On in 2010 with two partners. The company focuses on lightweight construction and impact‑softening technology. Its signature “cloud” sole, which compresses on landing and springs back, has attracted runners worldwide.

On Monday, the brand announced a partnership with French football star Kylian Mbappé, signing the 24‑year‑old to a multi‑year endorsement deal with Nike as the primary sponsor. The move marks On’s first high‑profile collaboration outside the running market and signals a push into mainstream sports apparel.

Industry analysts said the deal could broaden On’s visibility among younger consumers and diversify its revenue beyond premium running shoes. Nike will continue to supply Mbappé’s football boots, while On will provide his training and lifestyle footwear.

Bernhard said the partnership reflects On’s ambition to blend performance engineering with popular culture. The company plans to roll out a limited‑edition Mbappé sneaker line later this year, aiming to capture both athletes and fans.
