Egypt’s House of Representatives has voted to delay the start of the new Criminal Procedure Law by a year, moving the launch to October 1, 2027.
- During an emergency plenary session chaired by Counselor Hisham Badawy, MPs approved a draft amendment that replaces the original start date of October 1, 2026 with October 1, 2027.
- The extra year is meant to give authorities time to finish digital upgrades—electronic notifications, remote litigation platforms, and inter‑agency data links—required by Law No. 174 of 2025.
- Officials will also use the delay to train judges, prosecutors and support staff, and to test the new systems before they go live nationwide.
All changes will take effect the day after publication in the Official Gazette.
