Real Madrid Manager Mourinho Praises Squad Depth Following Victory

Real Madrid manager José Mourinho credited collective effort for the team’s recent 2-1 victory, dismissing suggestions that luck played a role in the result. The win came despite a last-minute change in the starting lineup involving goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

The Goalkeeper Change

The club announced that starting goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois would miss the match due to the flu ten hours before kickoff. Mourinho stated he told Lunin before the match to prepare as if he were a starter rather than a substitute. The manager noted that Lunin demonstrated composure throughout the game, effectively filling the position usually held by Courtois.

Strategic Approach

Mourinho emphasized the importance of team unity following a difficult start to the season. During the match, Lunin made a critical save against a header from Gerard Martín while the score was tied. The manager highlighted this performance as evidence of the squad’s depth, noting that the team maintained its focus despite the absence of its primary goalkeeper. The victory marks a significant turning point for the team after recent struggles.

Current Status

The team remains focused on maintaining this collective momentum as the season progresses. By relying on squad depth and tactical discipline, the coaching staff aims to stabilize performance levels following this result.

Why it matters: This victory demonstrates the resilience of Real Madrid’s roster and the effectiveness of Mourinho’s management style in handling unexpected personnel challenges. For observers, it highlights how tactical preparation and player readiness can overcome the loss of key starters in high-stakes competition.
