Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, toured the Digital Manufacturing Centre (DMC) at the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) Engine Factory in Helwan to evaluate domestic production potential. The visit focused on expanding local manufacturing of industrial components and spare parts through advanced technology integration.
The Ministerial Visit
Minister Hashem toured the facility alongside AOI Chairperson Mohamed Abdel Fattah Abu Bakr, Engine Factory Chairperson Gamal Ramadan, and Dongfeng Import and Export Company Chairman Wang Long. During the briefing, officials demonstrated the center’s Industry 4.0 capabilities, including multi-axis machining, computer-controlled turning and milling, and dynamic balancing units. These tools allow for precision manufacturing of various industrial equipment.
Strategic Objectives
The Ministry of Industry aims to accelerate technological transformation to strengthen the national industrial base. Hashem emphasized the importance of maximizing the center’s production capacity to increase exports and integrate domestic manufacturers into global value chains. AOI Chairperson Abu Bakr stated that the center supports both defense and civilian sectors. Current production includes components for water treatment and industrial drainage pumps, as well as supplies for the presidential Decent Life initiative.
Future Cooperation
The visit included discussions regarding potential partnerships with the Chinese firm Dongfeng. AOI leadership is coordinating with the Ministry of Industry to explore industrial cooperation opportunities with the company. The organization continues to collaborate with local and international entities to strengthen supply chains and improve the competitiveness of Egyptian-made products.
Current Status of Egyptian Industrial Localization
The DMC remains a key asset in Egypt’s strategy to localize advanced technology and reduce reliance on imports. By upgrading production capabilities and fostering international partnerships, the AOI seeks to enhance the value-added potential of domestic engineering industries.
