Egyptian Banks Report EGP 373.1bn Net Profit in First Half of 2026

Egyptian banks posted a combined net profit of EGP 373.133 billion in the first half of 2026, the Central Bank of Egypt said.

The sector generated net interest income of EGP 567.872 billion and total operating income of about EGP 795.005 billion, while expenses reached roughly EGP 421.872 billion.

June 2026 – ten largest banks

The ten biggest banks produced about 81.5% of total profits, or EGP 303.930 billion. They recorded net interest income of EGP 435.114 billion, operating income of EGP 635.675 billion and expenses of EGP 331.745 billion. Their return on average equity (ROAE) was 35%, return on average assets (ROAA) 2.6% and net interest margin 5.1%.

June 2026 – five largest banks

The five leading banks accounted for 70.1% of sector profit, delivering EGP 261.718 billion. They posted net interest income of EGP 364.798 billion, operating income of EGP 552.928 billion and expenses of EGP 291.210 billion. Their ROAE also stood at 35%, ROAA at 2.5% and net interest margin at 4.8%.

Overall sector ratios

Across all banks, ROAE was 33.9% in June, unchanged from March 2026. ROAA held at 2.6% and the net interest margin at 5.2%.

Current outlook

The figures show strong profitability and stable returns for Egypt’s banking sector, with the largest institutions driving the majority of earnings.
