Karnataka IT Minister Urges Continuous Learning Amid AI Disruption

Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge has called on technology professionals to prioritize continuous skill development to remain competitive as artificial intelligence reshapes global industries. He emphasized that the rapid adoption of AI makes adaptability essential for workers facing uncertain job requirements.

October 28: Industry Address in Bengaluru

Speaking at the opening of the RSM US Integrated Services India Private Limited office at Manyata Tech Park, Kharge described AI as a highly disruptive technology. He noted that the unprecedented speed of its adoption creates challenges for predicting future labor market needs. The minister stated that professionals must focus on capabilities that align with global market demands to maintain relevance.

The Role of Karnataka’s Talent Pool

Kharge highlighted the state’s workforce as a primary driver for attracting multinational Global Capability Centres. He described the workforce as agile, noting that it is prepared to unlearn and relearn skills as business needs evolve. The minister pointed to the high concentration of talent in Bengaluru, specifically citing the Outer Ring Road, where approximately 800,000 people work along a 9-kilometer stretch.

Focus on the Nipuna Karnataka Initiative

To address evolving job requirements, the minister discussed the Nipuna Karnataka skilling initiative. This government program involves industry partners in curriculum development to ensure training aligns with specific hiring needs. Under this model, government funding for training costs is tied directly to employability and employment outcomes, rather than general skill acquisition.

Current Status of Industry Skilling

The state government plans to continue strengthening infrastructure and leveraging its workforce to attract high-value investment. Officials emphasized that closer collaboration between the government and industry is necessary to identify skill gaps created by AI adoption.
