Indian Appliance Maker Atomberg Receives SEBI Approval for ₹450 Crore IPO

Consumer appliance manufacturer Atomberg received formal clearance from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on Wednesday to proceed with its initial public offering. The market regulator issued its observation letter on October 30, roughly two months after the company submitted its draft papers.

IPO Details and Capital Allocation

Founded in 2012 by Manoj Meena and Sibabrata Das, the company manufactures products including ceiling fans, mixer grinders, water purifiers, and cold-pressed juicers. Under the proposed plan, the IPO will consist of a fresh issue of equity shares valued at up to ₹450 crore, alongside an offer for sale component of up to 7.65 crore equity shares.

Atomberg outlined specific objectives for the capital raised through the fresh issue:

  • ₹90 crore is designated for the repayment or prepayment of outstanding borrowings.
  • ₹150 crore is allocated for brand awareness and performance marketing initiatives.
  • ₹100 crore is earmarked for research and development.
  • The remaining funds will support general corporate purposes.

Several institutional investors, including A91 Partners, Temasek Holdings, and Inflexor Ventures, intend to dilute their stakes in the company as part of the public offering.

Business Operations and Expansion

Beyond its consumer-facing products, Atomberg operates a subsidiary, Atomberg Innovations, which produces proprietary components such as motors and controllers. This division supplies enterprise customers including Voltas, Godrej, and Blue Star.

Why it matters: The approval highlights the continued appetite for public listings among Indian consumer goods manufacturers. For investors and market observers, the move signals a shift in funding strategy as established startups seek to transition into public entities to fuel research, development, and marketing expansion.
