Egypt Deputy Prime Minister Calls Tourism Key Driver of Economic Growth

Cairo, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa said tourism is an integrated industry that drives Egypt’s economy, generating foreign currency, attracting investment and creating jobs.

Eissa made the remarks while opening the inaugural Al-Ahram Forum for Egyptian Tourism. He highlighted Egypt’s unique assets, from ancient monuments and the Nile to beaches and diverse natural sites, and noted the sector spans cultural, religious, medical, sports and ecotourism segments.

Boosting Competitiveness

The minister said enhancing tourism’s economic returns requires coordinated action to improve product competitiveness. Priorities include developing new destinations, raising service quality, stimulating investment, expanding air connectivity and leveraging digital transformation.

Eissa urged extending tourists’ length of stay and increasing per‑visitor spending while preserving cultural and natural heritage.

Roles of State, Private Sector and Media

He said the state will improve the legislative and investment climate and provide infrastructure, while the private sector is expected to drive innovation and product development. Experts and the media, he added, should contribute knowledge and promotion of Egypt’s tourism offerings.
