Egypt’s Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with representatives from the WifOR Institute and Roche in Berlin to discuss integrating economic research into national health policymaking. The talks, held during the World Health Summit, focused on how health outcomes influence labor productivity, human capital development, and economic growth.
Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stated the discussions reviewed the “Societal Value of Health” initiative, which currently assesses the economic impact of treatments for breast cancer and diabetic retinopathy. Officials evaluated study findings on how medical interventions help patients remain in the workforce and reduce broader societal burdens. Both parties explored expanding this research framework to other national health priorities and improving the use of scientific data in future government decisions.
