UN Report Warns Global Temperatures Near 2.8°C Threshold

The United Nations released a report Tuesday indicating that Earth is on track to warm by 2.8 degrees Celsius above pre‑industrial levels, far exceeding the 1.5‑degree limit set by the Paris Agreement.

Scientists cited in the document say the projected rise reflects continued emissions growth despite recent policy advances. The report acknowledges progress in renewable energy deployment and pledges from several nations, but stresses that immediate, large‑scale action is required to avoid catastrophic impacts.

Key findings highlight accelerating sea‑level rise, intensified heatwaves, and heightened risk of extreme weather events. The UN urges governments, businesses, and civil society to scale up mitigation efforts and honor climate finance commitments.
