Egypt to Launch Updated Real Estate Tax App to Streamline Services

Egypt’s Finance Minister, Ahmed Kouchouk, announced that an updated version of the Real Estate Tax mobile application will launch soon. The initiative aims to improve accessibility for citizens and forms part of a broader, ongoing effort to simplify administrative procedures.

Expanding Digital Tax Infrastructure

Kouchouk shared the update during the annual conference of the Scientific Association for Tax Legislation. He emphasized that the government is committed to expanding digital services to benefit both the business community and individual taxpayers. According to the minister, the Egyptian Tax Authority is actively reviewing its current policies to increase flexibility in existing procedures.

Kouchouk stated that 90% of recent tax reforms were developed in response to direct feedback from the tax community. He described these changes as practical solutions designed to address specific challenges faced by taxpayers. The ministry intends to continue this consultative approach rather than treating tax facilitation as a one-time policy adjustment.

Revenue Growth and Tax Incentives

The minister also addressed the introduction of tax sukuk, noting that these instruments are designed to reward partners who consistently meet their financial obligations to the state. He credited the business community for its cooperation, which he said contributed to a 27% increase in tax revenues over the past year without the implementation of new tax burdens.

Rasha Abdel Aal, Head of the Egyptian Tax Authority, attended the conference, where officials underscored their focus on streamlining interactions between the state and investors. The focus remains on creating a more straightforward regulatory environment as the country pursues its digital transformation goals.

Why it matters: The launch of a digital tax application signals a significant step in Egypt’s effort to modernize its public services. By reducing bureaucratic friction through technology, the government aims to sustain revenue growth while easing compliance for the business sector, a critical component for maintaining economic stability in the region.
